Today on the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, thredUP, the world’s largest fashion resale marketplace, announces two new brand partnerships as part of its revolutionary RAAS (Resale-as-a-Service) platform.

In addition to growing its roster of brand partners, thredUP has also launched several other charitable clean out and shopping initiatives that enable customers to give back while doing good for the planet by choosing used.

Retail x Resale is the Future of Fashion

Today, thredUP launched two new partnerships with Reebok and Abercrombie & Fitch that reward their customers for extending the life of their clothes. These legacy brands join companies such as Reformation, Gap, Athleta, Macy’s, Madewell, Christy Dawn, and more — who are all plugging into thredUP’s infrastructure to offer convenient resale experiences to their customers.

  1. Reebok: thredUP’s partnership with Reebok invites customers to turn in secondhand clothes in exchange for 150 Reebok UNLOCKED loyalty points.
  2. Abercrombie & Fitch: thredUP has partnered with Abercrombie & Fitch to encourage their customers to turn in secondhand clothes in exchange for shopping credit to be redeemed at Abercrombie & Fitch and Hollister, and receive an additional 15% payout bonus.

“thredUP’s Resale-as-a-Service platform was built with consumers and forward-thinking retailers in mind,” said James Reinhart, Co-Founder and CEO of thredUP. “We are excited to add more legacy brands to our portfolio of brand partnerships, and we look forward to delivering this convenient, sustainable service to their customers.” — James Reinhart, thredUP Co-Founder + CEO

thredUP has spent the past 10 years reinventing resale, building a marketplace and infrastructure that have empowered millions of consumers to embrace secondhand. thredUP’s resale engine can price, photograph and distribute billions of unique SKUs with unmatched efficiency.

According to thredUP’s 2019 Resale Report, 9 in 10 retail executives want to get into resale. It is more important now than ever for businesses to come together and forge circular partnerships that benefit people and planet. Today, a roster of brands and retailers can plug into thredUP’s resale engine to power customizable, secondhand shopping and selling experiences for their customers.

Cleaning Out for a Cause

People are examining their relationship with the items they own and how they consume more than ever before. To help people continue to clean out and do good for themselves and charities they care about, thredUP launched a Feeding America clean out Donation Bag program to help those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • For every Donation Bag ordered, thredUP will give $15 to Feeding America (3X our normal donation bag amount).
  • Already have a Clean Out bag at home or en route to thredUP? thredUP also launched a tool that makes it easy to convert your existing clean out bag to a Feeding America Donation Bag.
  • thredUP has a goal of raising $1M for Feeding America. Turning clothes into cash for those who need it most right now.

thredUP x Reformation Shop to Benefit Feeding America

thredUP also teamed up with its original Resale-as-a-Service partner, Reformation, to launch a sustainable secondhand shop with the eco-fave brand.

  • thredUP listed over one thousand items donated by Reformation.
  • 30% of the sale of each item benefits Feeding America
  • The shop gives sustainable fashion fans the opportunity to do some more good for their community, their planet and their wardrobe this Earth month.

“Even in these unprecedented times, we can’t forget our sustainability efforts. Earth Month is always a big moment at thredUP and we are excited to offer our customers some celebratory sustainable fashion at thredUP prices, while providing an opportunity to give back to the community.” — Erin Wallace, VP of Integrated Marketing, thredUP

The Collective Power of Choosing Used

The fact is, there are enough awesome clothes on the planet — let’s reuse them instead of sending them to landfill!

The past few weeks have shown the impact that small, collective choices can make. We all have the power to create a better world this Earth Month and beyond.

If everyone bought one used item instead of new this year, we would save 5.7B lbs of carbon emissions. That’s the equivalent of taking half a million cars off the road for an entire year.
